Can't Stop Detonating V2 12" ???

Yeah, well, if we can remember that gig, we'll talk about it. Or if we can remember how we got that sound, whatever.

Can't Stop Detonating V2 12" ???

Postby B. Hell » Thu Jan 14, 2010 3:20 am

To add to the discography I have a 7" that came with some magazine (Record Mirror I think) that features an alternate version of V2 alongside the Three Johns and Big Audio Dynamite. I also have two copies of a flexi disc with live renditions of Scumsurfin' and Head Staggered. I think this came with another defunct magazine The Catalogue.

Does anyone have a complete list of the B-sides, remixes and various formats of all the singles? I have most of them, but I suspect there are multiple formats I lack, and I have no Hey Venus single at all!

I have 7" vinyl of V2 and Can't Stop, but Keen and It's A Good Thing on 12".

Were Can't Stop and V2 released on 12" ?

If so were there extra songs featured that weren't on the 7" ?

If anyone reading this happens to have a spare copy of V2 or Can't Stop on 12" would they be into swapping for a Genius Move 12" ?

Were there CD singles of Detonate My Dreams, Abandon and Sensitize?

Hellboy,

Decent disco here:

Yes, Can't Stop/NKOJ and V2 were released on 12". V2 also featured Happiness Drives Me Round The Bend (great). Regarding CD singles, yes, yes and yes. Most of these should be knocking round ebay etc.

Best,

Thanks for the info on the V" 12" but I am way too old to be described as a "boy."
Good job I'm of Caucasian extraction or calling me Hellboy would seem a bit racist!

I don't buy stuff on ebay since someone didn't send what I'd bought, probably as I got it way cheaper than he'd have liked. I find charity shops throw up some good stuff though - no sooner had I written the message above saying I didn't have a Hey Venus single when I found a cassette single for 33.3p in a Red Cross shop. It's infected with a Mad Thatcher Disease mix. That's what you got in the eighties if you ate a million mashed up cows in one soggy bun! It had a long gestation that led to an illegal Bliar war with Sodem Insane, and a rise in obesity and senility.

I suspect the V2 12" is one of the rarer TPE records these days!

Well that discography was pretty good, but two things to add:

Big Decision 10" has an alternate mix to album version (not sure if it is the same as the 12" as I only have the 7" and 10")

I have a live LP with Circusville, Non-Alignment Pact, V2, It's a Good Thing, Here it is take it, Genius Move, Cinnamon Girl that was released between Genius Move and Cellophane. It could have been a bootleg? Sound quality suggests maybe not.

Anyone know if that seven song live LP was an official release?
It has a white sleeve with a press cutting about the band on the front and is credited as being released by Mansfield Publishing.
Here it is Take It emerged here before the End of the Millennium Psychosis set in...

yes it was an official release but it was deliberately made to look like a boot - at the time Virgin had nothing to promote in the US as Babble was on phonogram so this was a ploy to try and get them something to work with, i havent heard it in years tho i have a copy somewhere - is it any kop?

Yeah Raymond, I have a copy of this too. It's just seven tracks long but well worth it ; your take on Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" sounds like it's always been a Petrols tune (as is often the case with yr cover versions BTW), and the main interest to me is the "Here It Is... Take It" rendition which is much rawer than the LP version released months later (no horns, but groovy guitars all along). Also worthy of note is the inclusion of "Circusville" and "V2", two numbers who weren't I assume regulars on your setlist at that time. But I've always wondered if this was all from the same gig, or if it was a compilation made up from several periods ?

F.

it must have been a recording from the same gig Francois - Circusville and V2 were in the live sets for ages, they were stalwarts for the longest time in the early days
