We’re just about to get in the van and head up north to see our Brum brethren.
This rolls in, courtesy of Google Alerts. This time it’s the Guardian. No lyrical references, but we’re certainly on everyone’s mind this Wimbledon. What was it that happened at 2:20PM on this day to pop us into everyone’s head at the same time?
Hey, Venus Williams! You need a theme song. We’ve got just the ticket.
Nothing new here – obviously we had a knack for a turn of phrase. ;^)
But this is what, the millionth time this one has been copped? Super Furries using it as an album title, now they’re getting all Wimbledon on us. This one is so obvious, my question is how come it took so long?
Wimbledon… Venus Williams… you know where this one is going.
We had our first group rehearsal tonight and it was stonkin’, to use an old TPE phrase.
I’m jet lagged as hell and just found out that for some reason people care if Michael Jackson is alive or dead. Maybe it’s the jet lag, but I find this puzzling.
Anyhow, let me get a good night’s rest and then we’ve got a ton of news to post. Television, radio… all sorts of good stuff, and mostly because of YOU, our fans.
Remember when I got the Daves mixed up awhile back? I never did post Dave Walsh’s photos from the Electric Picnic. Well, In some ways that’s kind of good, because looking at these I’m getting really excited again. See you all very soon.
So is going on honeymoon. Especially if it’s to Tahiti. Highly recommended.
Preparation for the Electric Picnic continues apace. The rehearsals are going very, very well. Let’s just say we’re really excited about this.
Oh, and while I’m at it, it was really nice to come home to an email from a friend that noticed that we were mentioned on the Guardian blog. Funny how the planets seem to align from time to time. See for yourself:
Not only was it beautiful to look at, (did we expect any less from Anton Corbijn?) but it was also a great portrayal of what it’s like to be in a band when you’re first starting out. And it was also great that they didn’t glamorize it at all – it was quite bleak, to be honest. And the pacing was quite slow. Some of the folks I went with thought it could have moved along a little quicker, but I thought it was perfect. And the fact that they played all the versions of the songs used in the film was even more impressive.
So I’m sure my brain was engaged, but not fully connected.
I wrote the first blog post talking about the things that have inspired me the past few years, including the Gang of Four, and then of course I spend the next two days hanging out with Dave Allen. How cool is that?
Dave and I are sort of on eerily parallel courses right now. I’m in Seattle, he’s in Portland. We’ve both got design/consulting/new media companies. We’re both trying to rally our band mates into taking this new internet/social network/music/community thing head on.
What a great guy, and he’s got a great blog (now in the blog roll of course): pampelmoose.com. You should check it out.
Why were Dave and I hanging out, you might ask? We’re both members of the Recording Academy (the folks who bring you the Grammys), and we just had a two day Music Tech conference about the intersection of technology and the music industry. It was two days of really great information. We’re posting video of all the panels. I gave the first workshop and moderated the panel on digital distribution. Dave moderated the panel on social networking. Pretty critical stuff, if you’re a musician.
